After nine semesters, Ulrich Stoll passed his exams on the 27th of July, 1951 with the final grade "excellent" as the best of his class. He belonged to the first art students in post war-Germany, whose work is called the "Expressionism of the 2nd Generation". Ulrich Stoll's' works impressively reflect this recommencement. Therefore, experts see in his work not only the high artistic quality, but also interesting significance for contemporary history.

Today, art critics view Ulrich Stoll with his young age of 29 as an early completed artist. During his lifetime he only accepted criticism from people he respected due to his high degree of expertise.

Immediately after his exams, Ulrich Stoll went on a journey through southern France. A trip that inspired him and whose influence was captured in many of his paintings.

He loved to experiment and did not want to commit to a special style. His work was his spiritualism and he was capable of capturing the whole palette of artistic ways of expression. The lack of certain materials at that time did not hinder him. Like other artists of his time, he used canvas and paper on both sides.

He was inspired by the expressionists Franz Marc and August Macke, the impressionist Cezanne and the cubism of Braque and Picasso. He perfectly mastered naturalistic painting and drawing, without seeing his own artistic style in it.
